You’re Going on a Cross-Country Trip. Airplane, Train, Bus, Car, or Bike?
If I were going on a cross country trip by car, that would be my first choice without hesitation.
Living in Kanagawa Prefecture as a Canadian expat for the past 16 years has given me the opportunity to see many things, but most of that time was spent focused on work and building a stable life. Like many people, I spent years working hard and staying busy.
Recently, however, my perspective has changed.
After starting my own company focused on digital assets and long-term value, I’ve begun to understand something more clearly than ever before—the true value of time and patience. Building something meaningful takes years, and as my company grows, it is slowly giving me something even more important: the freedom to slow down.
That’s one reason a cross country trip by car appeals to me so much. Driving allows you to explore places at your own pace. Unlike flying or taking a train, a road trip gives you the freedom to stop in small towns, take scenic routes, and discover places you never expected to visit.
Japan is full of these hidden places. Even after living here for more than a decade, I know there is still so much to explore beyond the major cities.
A road trip would allow me to revisit parts of Japan and also discover completely new ones, taking the time to appreciate the landscape, culture, and quiet moments that often get missed when life moves too quickly.
Sometimes the destination matters less than the journey itself. Choosing a cross country trip by car feels like the perfect way to experience that idea while finally taking the time to explore Japan more deeply.
